Town Criers

Track Covered: Black And White Town

Town Criers first formed in 2008 by brothers Tom and Matt Ainsworth from Manchester. The original line up featured Stu Grieve on Vocals, Chris Brahney on Bass with Matt & Tom on Guitar and Drums respectively. After a run of gigs, they disbanded. Matt & Tom continued to write songs together under the Town Criers name but performing them acoustically with Tom taking lead vocal duties. The brothers are continuing to write songs together and are currently looking to get a full band together to showcase brand new songs. For the time being however, they can often be seen playing acoustic shows out and about in the North West.  Their style embraces the melodic, catchy tunes of The Beatles and Oasis but with a hint of Johnny Marr/Nick McCabe Guitar and Chemical Brothers beats over the top.

On Black & White Town

The reason we chose Black and White Town to cover is because of the massive buzz we got off it when it first came out. We both went to Manchester Apollo for the Some Cities tour and I still remember the sheer excitement after hearing those first motown style piano chords come in.

It seemed pointless to record a straight forward cover of B&WT so we decided to take it down a step and give it some chill out vibes as we are both fans of dance music.

Black and White town is such a floor stomping, danceable tune,
we wanted to see how the song would have sounded if it was recorded by Sub Sub rather than Doves.
